IERI’s mission is to be recognised as an African centre of excellence in the fields of Policy, Strategy, Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation within the domain of innovation systems. It aims to network through trans-disciplinary competences in economic, social and political sciences. IERI also aims to participate in the science and technology programmes of the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (Nepad) and thereby contribute to the objective of strengthening the African Union.

IERI’s vision is to contribute thought-leadership, evidence-based policy research, capacity development and competency support to the field of innovation studies through engaging in basic, strategic and applied research, with the objective of fostering economic growth and ensuring sustainable development of South Africa, the continent of Africa, the developing world and the globe.
